||Community Energy, Inc. (CEI) was founded in 1999 by leading
environmental groups with a mission to ignite the market and supply
the demand for new, locally-produced, "fuel free", renewable
electricity. CEI has helped bring over 270 megawatts (MW) of
new wind energy projects on-line in the Eastern United States.
Its customers include 21 of the 25 largest wind purchases in the
nation. CEI is developing new wind projects in New England,
which are expected to come on-line in 2004 or 2005.
||"Customers make new wind projects happen." CEI is a for-profit
company that brings customer support to specific wind projects in
each grid in which it operates.
||CEI's NewWindEnergy® medium and large customer products
are "certificates" for wind energy, generally sold through bi-lateral
contracts, with pricing based on megawatt-hour (MWh) volume and term.
Certificate contracts are flexible - customers can customize their
purchase amounts to meet a certain percentage of their overall use,
the use of a specific facility, environmental or emissions goals,
or other factors. CEI medium/large customer certificate contracts
average a term of 3 years and volume of 2,000 MWh.
||100% wind from new facilities New York and Pennsylvania,
and from projects under development in New England.
100% new wind generation.
||Customers may purchase NewWindEnergy® certificates from
new projects operating in adjoining Northeast regions. CEI is also
entering into contracts for wind supply under development in the
New England region. (Customers pay only when projects come on-line.)
||All NewWindEnergy?certificates from current wind supply are
(Projects under development can only be certified once operational)
||All NewWindEnergy® products are themselves zero-emission.
In addition, by virtue of their grid location, CEI's New York,
Mid-Atlantic and future New England wind farms help offset CO2
and other emissions upwind of Maine.
||In addition to the public health and social benefits from
zero-emission wind generation, wind turbines use less than 5% of
the land area for electricity generation than do other generation
facilities. This small "footprint" allows more productive land
to be used for other purposes (e.g., farming, recreation, etc.)

||Because NewWind Energy® certificates represent the
environmental and production attributes of a specific amount
